There's a Tattoo parlour in Manchester that has had this quote painted onto it's shutters for donkeys years. It's always been one of my favourites since I first saw it many years ago. I always knew one day I would do something with it. George Burchett was a pioneer of tattoo art. Many of the traditional motifs of tattooing were invented by him. Unfortunately not many photo's of his work exist; he died in 1953. I came across this image of a WW1 veteran showing off his Burchett tattoos online and managed to track down a good enough photographic print to scan and work from. I totally relate to this quote. It reminds me of being a punk in Manchester in the 80"s and the constant shit i would get in town for looking different and how the threats and violence just made me even more determined to be a freak!
