BEN1  Benjamin One

 Through 20 years of making art, both for self-preservation, stylistic interrogation and innovation, Benjamin builds pieces that have been through the alchemical education. Using a knowledge of graffiti culture and UK pirate radio spirit and examining the links of the transmitted identity and the self-altered destiny. Subjects and methods vary from the personally initiated ritual to the Devine numerical rites of freely associated concrete religion.

 These works are as tied to the environments that enable them as they are to the new spaces they energise.

They are designed for the experience and communion of and with the archetypal as much as they are the architect in that language of reciprocity.

 People who say : “the journey is the destination” haven’t really had to run from the law or do what they must with what they don’t yet have.

 On December 26th 2018 Benjamin founded the council of alchemical housing for further distillation and research purposes.

 COUNTRY LINES 2.0 Artists Statement

 We didn’t have passengers where I’m from.

We had tracksides and freights and this project is a tribute to that.

 It’s my hazy aggrandising memories of that ritual and what it did for me as a person. This stuff is more than we make it. The long lineage of building your own narrative into a process of actualisation, individuation and site specific tempo based composition.

 The project consists of a sound installation built solely from field recordings of trackside noise, tunnels and one trespassing incident, alongside a series of small chrome and black works on paper. First exhibited in 2019 this is the second iteration of the original concept.
