At last I've found time to start publishing the pics from PhlAsh's outstanding solo show at the Margaret Harvey Gallery, UH Galleries, in St Albans.
'Toxicity' was a solo exhibition of new and recent work exploring ideas of narrative and the spectacle within landscape. Referencing the site specific, notably the aftermath of the fire at the Buncefield oil depot in December 2005, PhlAsh created semi-surreal settings and cartoon-like motifs in environments tinged by the sense of an imminent catastrophe. Apocalyptic landscapes devoid of human existence, built environments and architectural relics all lurk ominously beneath a fading paradise. The aspect of time blurs the boundaries between fantasy and fiction, and histories both real and fabricated, pertaining to mysterious phenomena and science fiction.
